I was doing some digging through the Peoria Historical Society Image Collection (which is a treasure trove of great old pictures by the way), and came across this lithograph of the Stone Hill Garden in Peoria. It was the most wonderful kind of garden, a beer garden. The picture is from 1896, but seems like a sketch of something I’d visit today. The description of the images states:
The beer garden had an open pavilion for dancing and dining, a band shell, a large covered coach house for horses and buggies, and an indoor restaurant and dance floor
So it sounds like it was the place to be. For more of your time traveling needs, visit the CARLI Digital Collection.
